Program Summary

The European Master in Animal Biodiversity and Genomics (EMABG) is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) programme lasting two years (120 ECTS). It awards a joint or double Master’s degree and is funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ scheme. The course is delivered across six European universities and is open to all international applicants. The portal opens on 15 September 2026 and the final deadline is 15 January 2027.

Consortium Partner Universities

Scholars spend the first year at a primary host institution and the second year at a partner university, depending on their chosen specialisation. The consortium includes:

  3. University of Göttingen (Göttingen, Germany)

Academic Tracks & Specialisations

The curriculum blends genetics, genomics and sustainable agriculture. Available tracks are:

  • Quantitative and population genetics
  • Conservation genomics for rare and endangered breeds
  • Bioinformatics applied to biodiversity data
  • One Health and animal welfare integrating health, environment and farming systems

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the following:

  • A recognised Bachelor of Science (minimum 180 ECTS) in a relevant field such as Animal Science, Biology, Zoology, Agricultural Science, Veterinary Medicine or a closely related discipline.
  • English proficiency demonstrated by IELTS (overall 7.0, speaking ≥ 6.5) or TOEFL iBT (overall ≥ 92, speaking ≥ 23). Native English speakers or graduates from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland or New Zealand are exempt.
  • A compulsory 1‑2 minute motivation video outlining background, passion and career goals.
