Overview
The Martingale Foundation Scholarship 2027 provides a fully funded route for talented students from low‑socioeconomic backgrounds to pursue postgraduate study in Mathematical Sciences or Artificial Intelligence at a selection of leading UK universities. The award covers tuition fees, a tax‑free living stipend at the Living Wage rate, research expenses and a professional development programme.
Who can apply
Applicants must have achieved (or be on track to achieve) a First or Upper‑Second Class undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, be eligible to start a Master’s or PhD in September 2027, and qualify for Home Fee status. Candidates must have spent at least three years (ages 11‑18) or seven years (ages 4‑18) in a UK or Irish state‑funded school, or meet the refugee exception. Financial need is demonstrated by a household income of £45,000 or less, or equivalent indicators such as free‑school‑meals eligibility.

Application process
The selection proceeds in three stages:
- Apply to Martingale – submit the online form with transcripts, financial‑need evidence and two referee details. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed.
- Apply to partner universities – become a “Qualified Candidate” and follow each university’s normal admissions process, supported by Martingale workshops and guidance.
- Funding allocation – Martingale allocates funded places for MSc offers; partner universities directly award funded PhD positions.

How to apply
Stage 1 – Martingale application
- Complete the online form on the Martingale website.
- Upload an academic transcript, evidence of financial need and details of two referees.
- Await interview invitation (usually November).
Stage 2 – University applications
- If shortlisted, you become a “Qualified Candidate”.
- Apply directly to one or more partner universities following their standard procedures.
- Use Martingale’s workshops, one‑to‑one guidance and proofreading services.
Stage 3 – Funding allocation
- For MSc: submit university‑offer preferences; Martingale allocates funded places.
- For PhD: partner universities award Martingale‑funded PhD positions directly.
