A fully funded 10-week research internship in Germany for Bachelor's students from any country. Interns join a Matter to Life faculty laboratory, with travel, accommodation and a monthly living allowance paid for. No previous research experience is needed.
The Matter to Life Undergraduate Research Opportunities (MtL-URO) programme lets Bachelor's students spend ten weeks working on a defined research question in a Matter to Life faculty laboratory in Germany. Applicants from any country can apply, and interns choose the lab they would like to join.

What you will do
Interns work alongside researchers, learn scientific methods by using them, and get to know Germany's research environment. The internship runs between June and November 2027. Participating laboratories are in cities across Germany, including Munich, Heidelberg, Göttingen, Dresden, Jena, Mainz, Münster, Potsdam and Aachen.
Who can apply
The programme suits students of biology, chemistry, physics, informatics, materials science, engineering, bioengineering and related subjects. Previous research experience is not required, but applicants should have a genuine interest in Matter to Life research and must meet the academic requirements listed under the eligibility notes.
How to apply
- Check that you meet the eligibility conditions, particularly that you will still be enrolled in your Bachelor's degree for the whole ten weeks and that your GPA meets the minimum.
- Prepare your documents: a CV of no more than two pages, your current university transcript, a one-page personal statement, the Matter to Life laboratory you would prefer, and the period when you are available for the ten-week internship.

Eligibility notes
Applicants must be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree throughout the whole internship, so graduating before it ends is not allowed. At least 1.5 semesters must be completed when applying and at least two by the start of the internship. A minimum GPA of 1.7 is required, along with a background in a relevant field and a genuine interest in Matter to Life research.
