How to apply
On the embassy track, applications go to the Japanese embassy or consulate general in your own country — never directly to MEXT in Japan, which will not process them. Each embassy publishes its own schedule and documents, so the timetable differs by country.
Screening runs in two stages: a written examination and interview at the embassy, then a second screening in Japan by MEXT and the universities for candidates the embassy recommends.
