The Institute for Law & AI (LawAI) runs a 10‑week immersive Summer Fellowship from 14 June to 20 August 2027. Fellows are based in Washington, D.C. or Berkeley, California, and take part in intensive policy discussions, research projects and networking with regulators, academics and industry leaders. A dedicated Convening Week (21–25 June) in Washington, D.C. offers direct engagement with policymakers.
Financial support
The fellowship is fully funded. Fellows receive a competitive stipend of US $2,000 per week. Housing and relocation assistance are provided, and round‑trip international or domestic flights, as well as accommodation and meals during official convening periods, are covered. Visa sponsorship is offered to successful international candidates.
Who can apply
The programme welcomes:
- Graduate law students (J.D. or LL.M.)
- PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers in law or related fields
- Legal academics and scholars
- Professionals from policy, technology or governance seeking to specialise in AI law
Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in legal principles, governance or technology regulation; prior AI‑specific research is not required.
